How bad is it to have Verizon DSL come through your regular home phone landline? Is it better to come in separ?

Is it better to have Verizon DSL line come into your house separately from another landline? I have a separate landline that's not currently in use.

I worry if I have DSL coming in through the same landline as my active phone, it might mess up voice calls? Even if it's say 3% of the time, it's still a no no.
